Assignment 4 - Ideas and Draft
The theme given for this assignment is active aging. With that in mind, the first thought that came to mind was to decide whether to approach it in a positive light (fun, cheerful kind of poster) or negative light (what if.., do you want your kids to be growing up all alone..). Also in consideration was whether to make it photo-based.
I think photo-based poster can easily send a very strong and straight forward message. Just take a photo of an elderly exercising and the audience can tell it's a poster about encouraging elderly to exercise and remain active. The downfall to that however is that a poster that doesn't require much attention will be easily forgotten. Passerbys will just walk pass the poster, take a look at it and think to themselves "oh it's just another active aging campaign" and then totally forgot about it.
I wanted to try something different. To create a poster that grabs a passerby attention and then sends a message that they will remember. It's risky but lets give it a try.
I've came up with this.

The main idea behind this is when passerby see the "no elderly" sign, they will be curious to why elderly are not allowed in the area. They will then read the rest of the message and hopefully will be amused that it's actually not a "fine" sign but rather a poster with a message.
The negative abt this kind of poster is it breaks out of the norm and some people might not be able to understand. Lets see how the class feel.
